Ducks and Rabbits...

OK.... My line of thought:

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, I don't need to hear it quack to know that it is a duck.

Samantha's neurologist line of thought:

Yes, it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, but since I have no proof that it can quack it must be a rabbit.

I got a call from the neurologist. I am highly pissed off. He does not want to treat Samantha... He wants to treat the EEG. According to him even though Samantha's "episodes" look and act like seizure activity, if they do not look like typical seizure activity on the EEG, she must not be having seizures!

So, by this definition my daughter has been medicated, operated and hospitalized on the brink of death more times than I can count for absolutely no reason.

Wait....

I think I just heard the doctor QUACK!

He must be a duck...

OMG! Melissa! You have me rolling on the floor laughing like crazy! Love this post! I'm sorry he is making it difficult for you. Do you think that any of Samantha's other doctors might be helpful in talking to this Quack, or that maybe they can find someone to give you a second opinion? We're looking for a new neuro as well, because well, we think she might also quack. lol

laurie - Maybe if we take bread to throw at him for her next appointment.... hhhmmmmm... too tempting for words! :) We are going to try for the second opinion at the Bluebird clinic in Houston... Now I just get to fight with medicaid to get the funding and fight with the doctors for the propper referals. Why do I suddenly feel like I deserve the world lightweight medicaid fighting championship belt?!

angelwings - Thanks... I think finding a good neurologist is like finding a good, single, straight man... almost impossible! (But, I did find my guy, so let the search begin!!!)

sol - LOL! Not to worry, with Sam I have dealt with (and fired) LOTS of doctors and nurses with a "GOD complex". I try not to let it upset me as much anymore. The way I see it a person who thinks they are above making mistakes is a moron I would rather not waste my time on! :)

I have had the same experiences with the Neuro and the EEG, his seizures are increased, but the EEG shows "slowing" and a few spikes, the doc says "maybe what we are seeing is not a seizure, but auras. I borrowed a camcorder and video tapes his seizure activity, and gave it to the doc, he says well yes those were, but prob not everything we think we see are seizures. I think some Neuro guys just do not get it if the lines are not wavy(wink, wink)
hang in there, keep the faith.
